Bespoke Interiors: A Thoughtful Focus on Family-Led Design
Discover how we reimagined a garage and ground floor layout, creating a contemporary, functional space tailored to modern family living.
This project transformed an underutilised garage and part of the ground floor into a cohesive, inviting space for modern family life. Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining area opened up the layout, creating a brighter and more expansive environment. The former garage was reimagined as a vibrant playroom, complete with custom storage and a hand-painted mural of Moel Famau as a focal point.
In the living room, a bespoke hexagon wall panel design adds a distinctive touch. To the rear of the converted garage, bi-fold doors lead to sustainable composite decking with a custom awning, offering a welcoming area for summer gatherings. The result is a harmonious blend of thoughtful design and practicality, perfectly tailored to the family’s needs.

This project reimagined the interior layout of a modest three-bedroom new-build home, focusing on increasing usable ground floor space without altering the external footprint. Purchased off-plan, the property included an integral garage which, from the outset, was intended to be converted to improve the functionality of the living spaces. As the homes are constructed on marshland with piled foundations, extending the footprint was not viable, making internal reconfiguration the key to unlocking the home’s potential.
Our proposal involved removing the garage and part of the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining area, creating a much-improved flow through the ground floor. The reconfigured plan accommodates a dedicated dining area and a vibrant playroom, increasing the family’s shared living space while maintaining clear zones for activity and relaxation. A bespoke timber slat screen between the dining area and playroom offers a visual boundary without fully enclosing the space, allowing light to filter through and enabling easy supervision of children at play. From different angles, the level of transparency shifts, subtly framing views and reinforcing a sense of connection.
Externally, bi-fold doors open onto a newly installed composite deck that wraps around the rear of the house. A retractable awning extends the usability of this outdoor space, creating an indoor-outdoor feel during warmer months and making the playroom feel like an extension of the landscape.
Interior details were thoughtfully developed to reflect the character and creativity of the family. A hand-painted mural of Moel Famau brings a personal and place-specific touch to the playroom, while the living room features a bespoke hexagonal panelled wall, adding depth and visual texture to an otherwise clean, minimal interior. The materials and palette were selected to complement the family’s everyday life — practical, warm, and durable — while still feeling modern and well-resolved.
Lighting was carefully considered to accentuate key features and support the changing needs of the space throughout the day. Integrated storage and carefully positioned furnishings help maintain a sense of calm and order without sacrificing personality or playfulness.
This conversion and interior rework is an example of how thoughtful design can elevate even the most constrained spaces. By working within the existing footprint and respecting the structural limitations of the site, we were able to create a light-filled, multi-functional ground floor that is both practical and deeply personal. The result is a harmonious environment that reflects the family’s values, supports daily routines, and brings a renewed sense of connection between inside and out.
